Hollywood gradually spreading its reach in the Hindi cinema
Hollywood gradually spreading its reach in the Hindi cinema

Though the two ventures of mainline studios of Hollywood, SAAWARIYA in collaboration with Sony Motion Pictures, and CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA in collaboration with Warner Brothers, as the mainstream interference in the film making in Hindi cinema did not meet with the expected success, Hollywood is indeed gung-ho about the Indian story manifest from the fact that Motion Pictures Association (MPA) joining hands with the Hindi cinema to fight the menace of piracy jointly. At stake is the loss of Rs. 4500 crore that the Hindi film industry suffers on account of the rampant piracy.
Now the two communications between Hollywood and Hindi cinema has become a new business reality. This is precisely the reason why one of the biggest fans of Hindi cinema and a man, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who has written new cinematic history with every film that he has produced, has decided to shoot an all English film BROKEN HORSES, which is being funded by Reliance. Vinod Chopra is director of the film and has also written the script. It is a gangster movie and who better than Chopra to direct it, as he made one of the best films on gangster PARINDA.
XTREME CITY is another film, which has been made on the world of gangsters of Mumbai by a Hollywood screenwriter Schrader. It is about an American son-in-law who lands in Mumbai to help out his father-in-law and gets entangled in the gang wars of Mumbai. It is an out and out action movie that aims to synthesize the action genre of Hollywood films and the way it is interpreted in Hindi films.
In the same vein we have HISS which is Mallika Sehrawat starrer snake woman movie, but with a twist that it has a Hollywood interpretation of this mythical figure from Indian history to give fresh look at the content which has an antiquity associated with it.
With MPA setting its office in Mumbai, and more of such collaborations in the offing, world of movie making would never be the same again. May be, motion pictures is how we would also start referring to it as, instead of cinema.
